Take a Breather... Rest!

Service Highlight Banner

In life, there are times when we feel overwhelmed, just like the prophet Elijah did. Elijah, in his despair, believed that God had abandoned him, and he felt scared and alone. However, despite his feelings of isolation, God never left Elijah. In hisd darkest moments, God sent an angel to provide him with food and rest, not once, but twice. God knew that Elijah’s journey was far from over and that a single moment of rest would not be enough for him to complete the task ahead.

God’s message through Elijah’s story is clear: rest is essential. Elijah couldn’t continue his journey without taking time to pause, reflect, and find peace. Just as God provided Elijah with food and rest, He offers the same to us. We cannot accomplish the great things God has planned for us without taking time to breathe and find rest in Him. Psalm 32:8 reminds us, “I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my eye upon you.” God will guide us through our journey, just as He did with Elijah, and He will be with us every step of the way. As we face the challenges and temptations of life, it is crucial that we take time to rest and refocus on God.

This rest is not just physical, but also spiritual. We must find rest in God’s presence, where we can experience peace and strength to carry on. Even nature itself rests. From the hibernation of animals to the seasons of growth and dormancy, creation shows us that rest is an integral part of life. If nature knows to rest, how much more should we, as God’s children, trust in His plan for our rest?

God’s call to rest is not about abandoning our responsibilities but about preparing ourselves for the journey ahead. When we rest in Him, we are better equipped to do His work and to experience His presence in our lives. As we slow down and take time to breathe, we can truly see God’s hand at work, guiding us and providing for us. The journey may not be easy, and like Jesus, we may face temptations along the way. But when we feel overwhelmed, it is a sign that we need to rest again, to recharge in God’s presence. Rest allows us to see the greatness of God and to fulfill the tasks He has set before us.

Let us not be like bees, buzzing around in chaos, unable to see God’s work in our lives. Instead, let us slow down, rest in God, and find the peace that only He can provide. In doing so, we can fully embrace the journey God has planned for us, knowing that He will never take away the great things He has in store for us just because we took time to rest in Him.
