Awaiting His Arrival: The Hope of Prophecy

Christmas Blog Banner

As December ushers in the season of Advent, our hearts and homes begin to fill with anticipation for Christmas. This time of year is not just about the hustle of the holiday season; it’s a sacred period of awaiting the fulfilment of a long-held promise—the coming of the Messiah.

In the Old Testament, prophets spoke of a Saviour who would come to redeem the world. These prophecies weren’t just forecasts of future events; they were beacons of hope for a people walking through darkness. Isaiah 9:6 is a profound example of such hope: “For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”

Today, as we enter into Advent, we are invited to reflect on the significance of these prophetic words. What does it mean to truly await His arrival? It is more than just an annual tradition or a countdown to Christmas day. It is an active, hopeful waiting that engages our hearts fully. This hope isn’t passive; it shapes how we live, it influences our interactions, and it charges our prayers with expectancy.

Each candle lit on the Advent wreath reminds us of the light of the world inching closer to our reality. The first candle, the candle of hope, flickers brightly, piercing through our winter’s gloom. This flame is a gentle yet powerful reminder that God’s promises are not only sure but they are also near.

As we journey through these weeks leading up to Christmas, let us meditate on the promises God made about the coming Messiah and how they were fulfilled in Jesus Christ. These ancient words are not just historical accounts but are alive and active, calling us to live in a posture of readiness and anticipation.

This season, I encourage you to delve deeper into the prophecies of the Old Testament. Reflect on their fulfilment in the New Testament and let this bolster your faith. How can the hope of Christ’s first coming inform our daily lives? How does it shape our perspective towards the future and His eventual return?

Advent is truly a journey of hope, from prophecy to fulfillment. Let us walk this path reverently, letting the hope of Christ infuse each day with purpose and joy as we await His arrival.
